Michele Travis is a director, dramaturg, and administrator.
She has directed plays in Lower East Side storefronts, Brooklyn basements, Manhattan black boxes, and Boston nightclubs, among other venues.
As a script reader and director for Vital Theater Company’s short play festival from 2001 to 2003, she directed early works by many playwrights including Cory Hinkle, Jenny Lyn Bader, and Seth Kramer. She has read submissions for the O’Neill Festival, the Lark Theater, New Georges, Parity Productions, and the Shubert Organization, and was also a script reader for The Public Theater from 2005 to 2016. She served as dramaturg on the pilot production of Signature Theatre Company’s Residency II program, WALKING OFF THE ROOF by Anthony Clarvoe. At Music-Theatre Group, she assisted in producing workshops of diverse projects including ARJUNA’S DILEMMA, a chamber opera by Doug Cuomo, and Anne Carson’s translation of ELECTRA. She is currently head of the Directors’ Company at New York Madness. She directed three episodes of #GOINGHOMELESS, a web series created by Judith Leora and Amy Gaipa, scheduled for release next year (we hope!). She was a co-producer of Sticky Series, site-specific short plays in bars, which ran at Beauty Bar Brooklyn in 2015 and Lovecraft NYC in 2016.
